Sarah Wess is an experienced litigator and skillful advocate in the complex field of family law. Ms. Wess focuses her practice exclusively in family law, where she handles all phases of litigation in domestic relations matters, including child custody, child support, divorce, alimony/spousal support, equitable distribution, and protection from abuse.

Family law impacts nearly every aspect of a person’s private life–right into their home, relationships, and finances. From the inception of a family law matter through conclusion, Ms. Wess is laser focused on reaching the best results for her client. Ms. Wess is pragmatic and takes special care to ensure her clients understand the legal framework to make sensible and informed choices that not only achieve their goals, but minimize the trauma and expense associated with protracted litigation, especially in the emotionally charged field of family law.

Ms. Wess is highly effective at moving cases forward through successful settlement negotiations where possible, always remaining focused on reaching her client’s desired result. To her clients she is known for her compassion and understanding. In the courtroom she is a skillful negotiator, tough, but fair. When settlement is not possible, Ms. Wess is an experienced litigator whose courtroom presence and practiced skills serve her clients well.

Before entering private practice, Ms. Wess devoted her career to public service. As a daughter and granddaughter of law enforcement officers, Ms. Wess knew at a young age that she wanted to go to law school and become a Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) prosecutor in New York, which is exactly what she did. As a prosecutor in Westchester County’s Special Prosecution Division, Ms. Wess was assigned to one of New York’s first Integrated Domestic Violence Courts and prosecuted felony sex crimes and child abuse cases. She handled cases from arrest through jury trial. Ms. Wess also served as a prosecutor in Steuben County, New York where she was responsible for the entire domestic violence caseload in the county, served as the coordinator of a multi-disciplinary Domestic Abuse Review Team and assisted in the development of the county’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program. Ms. Wess served as an Assistant Attorney General in Washington, D.C. for the District of Columbia and as a Deputy District Attorney in the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office prior to joining Goldman Law in October of 2012.

In addition to her prosecutorial experience, Ms. Wess served as an Attorney Advisor for AEquitas, The Prosecutors’ Resource on Violence Against Women, as well as a Senior Attorney for the DNA Forensics Program at the American Prosecutors Research Institute (APRI), the research, training, and technical assistance division of the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA). Ms. Wess has served as faculty for NDAA’s DNA Forensic Program, the National Center for the Prosecution of Child Abuse (NCPCA) and the National Center for the Prosecution of Violence Against Women (NCPVAW).

In addition to her career as a family law attorney, Ms. Wess is a devoted wife and mother. She enjoys any opportunity to explore nature, walk Captain the family labradoodle, and if lucky enough, ride a horse.
