Snowy, icy conditions caused 100-car Pennsylvania Turnpike pileup

Doylestown has been digging out after a massive winter storm blew through much of the Northeast earlier in the week, but it was on Pennsylvania's roads that some of the worst damage had been done. The Pennsylvania Turnpike appears to have gotten quite icy and snowy in the storm, which appears to have contributed to a 100-vehicle pileup. Though the weather conditions could certainly be blamed, it is also up to individual drivers to drive carefully and slowly in and following adverse weather conditions. Ultimately, an icy road can be traversed without incident if the motorist is driving for the conditions.

The Pennsylvania State Police have said that many of the car accidents were caused by drivers driving too fast and too close to the vehicles in front of them. Had the roads been dry and the weather fine, these accidents may not have happened, but no driver on the Pennsylvania Turnpike this morning would have thought the conditions were ideal.

It is true that these kinds of accidents are not completely the fault of negligent drivers, but negligence did play a part. By holding these negligent drivers responsible for their poor decisions, injured motorists may be able to collect for their injuries, their pain and suffering, and any unpaid wages resulting from missed work.

Pennsylvanians deal with snow, ice and bad weather every year; they should know how to drive in it. Unfortunately, it seems, not all of them do. While not everyone involved in this pileup is responsible or was even negligent, it seems highly unlikely that they were all innocent victims.
