Firefighter hit by car on I-95

Pennsylvania authorities reported that a firefighter who was attempting to help another motorist on I-95 was struck by a car. According to reports, the accident occurred in Tinicum Township around 5:00 a.m. on Dec. 7.

Reportedly, the firefighter noticed another motorist who had apparently been involved in an accident. The firefighter then apparently stopped to provide the motorist with help. A passing SUV then allegedly struck the disabled car, causing that car to then strike the firefighter.

The firefighter was seriously injured and required transport to an area hospital for treatment. He reportedly is employed with the Wilmington Manor Fire Company. No other injuries were reported in the collision. It is unclear what caused the first collision that involved the disabled car prior to the firefighter's involvement. No charges have been filed in connection with the accident.

Car accidents are sometimes simply unavoidable. Failing to notice traffic around a driver can cause serious accidents. When a person is seriously injured due to inattentive driving, the injured person may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit against the inattentive driver for his or her negligence. Even if no criminal charges are filed in connection with the accident, a negligent driver may still be found to be civilly liable. Injured plaintiffs may be able to win monetary compensation for the losses they have sustained as a result of the accident. Available damages will vary depending on the individual facts of a case, and people facing similar issues may wish to consult with a personal injury attorney.
