Reality television star may seek custody of one of his 8 children

The Pennsylvania-based reality television show 'Jon and Kate Plus 8" was renamed 'Kate Plus 8" after the titular couple went through a contentious divorce in 2009. While Jon Gosselin may no longer appear on the rebooted program, he continues to be fodder for celebrity gossip columnists. The 38-year-old father was in the news again in May 2015 when reports emerged that he was contemplating a legal action to obtain custody of one of his eight children.

International child abduction by parents remains a problem

Pennsylvania parents may not know that 8,000 children were abducted by their parents between 2008 and 2013 and taken to another country in violation of a custody order. According to the U.S. State Department, parental abductions happen to more than 1,000 children annually. Foreign abductions can be particularly difficult to pursue. There can be obstacles even with countries that have signed onto the applicable Hague convention regarding international child abductions, and travel back and forth for parents pursuing a case can be expensive.

Protecting assets in the event of a divorce

Many Pennsylvania couples who are planning on getting married opt to negotiate a prenuptial agreement prior to tying the knot. This type of agreement protects separate property in the event that the couple decides to get a divorce later on. However, not all couples chose to sign a prenuptial agreement, and while these agreements are often recommended, there are other ways that individuals can protect their separate assets.

Pennsylvania man sentenced for accident that killed teen

A Lancaster man has received a prison sentence of 20 to 50 years for causing a fatal car accident while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The 29-year-old man pleaded guilty on April 29 to several charges including DUI, criminal homicide and aggravated assault. According to the district attorney in Lancaster County, the sentence is the longest for a fatal DUI car accident in the county's history.

4 people injured in Pennsylvania bus crash

On May 1, four people were injured as a result of a collision involving a transit bus and another vehicle. The accident occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh. According to the Port Authority, an oncoming vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and crashed head-on with the bus.
