4 people injured in Pennsylvania bus crash

On May 1, four people were injured as a result of a collision involving a transit bus and another vehicle. The accident occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh. According to the Port Authority, an oncoming vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and crashed head-on with the bus.

The spokesman said the bus was traveling in the lane closest to the curb on the busy thoroughfare when the crash happened. Both drivers suffered injuries in the accident and were brought to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital to receive medical treatment. This facility was the major trauma center in closest proximity to the scene of the accident. The two injured passengers were both transported to UPMC Shadyside Hospital to receive treatment. Local reporters speculated that the passengers may have suffered less severe injuries than the two drivers.

Investigators told reporters they planned to review the surveillance video from the bus in order to determine how the crash occurred. Detectives may also recover valuable information by reviewing statements provided by eyewitnesses.

The bus driver and the passengers who were injured may consider filing personal injury lawsuits against the other driver if it can be determined that the driver was impaired, distracted or otherwise failing to observe the requisite standard of care. In cases like these, injured motor vehicle accident victims typically seek damages in a personal injury lawsuit for the costs of medical care and treatment, repair expenses, loss of income as well as other losses that may have been suffered. In many instances, attorneys for the plaintiffs can seek a settlement out of court.
