Single-vehicle wreck in stolen car injures 4

A July 9 accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike a few miles from the Morgantown exit left four people injured. According to authorities, the vehicle was reported stolen in St. Louis, Missouri, and the driver may have been intoxicated.

The accident occurred around 10:50 p.m. in Caernarvon Township and involved a westbound Chevrolet Suburban. According to police, a 24-year-old man from Deptford, New Jersey was driving recklessly prior to the crash and lost control of the vehicle. After striking a roadside station for emergency calls and veering across both of the roadway's lanes, the Suburban hit the center divider and crossed back over both traffic lanes. The SUV ran into a guardrail on the right side of the road. It ended up on top of the rail and landed on its roof.

Of the four occupants in the vehicle who were harmed, two suffered 'major" injuries and the others were moderately injured according to a state police investigator. All were taken to Reading Hospital, and three had been released as of July 10.

The injured passengers in the crash may suffer financially after the accident to their hospital bills. Additionally, their injuries may require additional medical treatment and could temporarily leave them unable to work. An personal injury attorney could help them pursue damages from the driver via civil litigation.

Charges are expected against the driver once the investigation into the car accident completes. If police conclude that he was, indeed, under the influence at the time of the crash, the DUI charge would serve as evidence of negligence if the other occupants decide to file respective lawsuits against him.
