Human error a likely reason for car accidents

It is important for many different reasons to determine why a car accident happened. Police in Pennsylvania need to know who caused it to determine if anyone should be ticketed. Insurance companies need to know if they are liable for paying out a claim in an accident's aftermath. In many cases, human error is to blame for a collision taking place, but there are many different types of mistakes a person can make.

For example, a person could be distracted by their children, a cellphone or attempting to eat a meal while driving. Drivers may also take their focus off the road if they are lost or otherwise unsure of their surroundings. Drug or alcohol abuse can result in a driver who is unable to focus on operating a motor vehicle in a safe manner.

In addition to human error, a mechanical failure could be the reason why a car accident takes place. For example, the brakes or other parts of a car might not work because they malfunction or because they were not properly maintained by the driver. Poor road or weather conditions can make it harder for a vehicle to perform properly; it may result in a car or truck colliding with another one on the road.

Drivers who cause car or truck accidents resulting in injury may be liable for some or all damages a victim incurs. A car accident injury might cause a person to miss work, school or other activities. It may also result in time spent in the hospital or the need to refurbish a home or car. Drivers who operate a motor vehicle while distracted or impaired are generally considered to be negligent if their actions result in a motor vehicle accident.
