Truck Accident May Have Cost a Pennsylvania Driver His Life

January 2, 2020

America’s economy wouldn’t be moving very fast if we didn’t move goods by trucks. In some parts of Pennsylvania and other states, trucks are the only reliable way of getting the things people need. But the sheer weight and speed of a tractor-trailer can do some serious damage if the driver lets it get out of control.

A truck driver is facing criminal charges after his involvement in a fatal crash on Interstate 80 in Luzerne County. The victim was a 55-year-old man from Philadelphia who was found dead in his vehicle on the highway near Hazleton. Police believe he was struck by a truck hauling cattle.

Witnesses state that the driver of the cattle hauler was taunting the victim as he attempted to pass the truck on the highway. Allegations include the truck driver crowding the victim off course by swerving into his lane.

The driver was later arrested at his destination in Montgomery County outside Philadelphia. Charges against him include failure to stop and render aid, failure to stop and contact authorities and reckless driving.

It is always important to contact police and wait at the scene of an accident in which a driver may have been involved. Lives may be at stake.

Beyond criminal charges, a driver involved in a fatal or injurious accident may face a civil suit for financial damages to help with a victim’s recovery or a family’s need for assistance. An attorney can help examine the facts of a case after an accident and recommend the best way forward in the legal domain.
